Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

Reserve the train as a main event, then match meals and parking to the published departure and return times.

Deep Creek

Walk to Tom Branch, Indian Creek, and Juney Whank falls or follow the creek under forest shade. The National Park Service does not recommend swimming or tubing in park waters and warns of serious water-related injuries.

Nantahala Gorge

Book guided rafting, watch paddlers, fish cold water, or build a full gorge day around outfitters and riverside stops west of town.

Fontana & Lakeview Drive

Use the long daylight for lake access, the Road to Nowhere tunnel, western-Smokies trailheads, and quieter scenic miles away from downtown.

Excursion length and departure time matter more than the mileage map. Leave enough room for boarding, the return, and a meal back downtown.

The National Park Service requires a parking tag for vehicles parked longer than 15 minutes. Buy the appropriate daily, weekly, or annual tag, display it as directed, and check current park alerts before leaving town. A parking tag does not guarantee a space.
